Soursop, aka sirsak in Bali, looks like a cousin to “the King” durian however it is a broadleaf flowering evergreen that bears fruit all year round. Its green soft-spiked skin protects its oval or heart-shaped white pulpy flesh that has a pleasant sweet-acidic taste. This beautifully-intriguing fruit is not only delicious, it is packed full of nutritional goodness like vitamin C, calcium, iron, niacin, tryptophan and lysine to mention a few. The juice of the ripe fruit is said to be a diuretic and may help relieve liver aliments. While the fermented fruit is used to make an apple cider-like drink.
We think it will make a great ice-cream treat when put through the juicer! Is soursop one of your fav’s to be eaten on its own? or do you prefer to combine it with another wondrous food of the world?
